1,132 steps from cafe Cumbe, I reach the Angel De La Independancia. El angel was built in 1910 during the thirty-one year reign of President Porfirio Diaz, to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of Mexico’s “war of independence” with Spain.

It is bit of an island. I have to arbitrarily cross a multilane roundabout, timing entry and exit to the pulse of cars speeding in and out from every direction. I’m not one for taking pictures of statues, but take a few anyway, revelling in touristy voyeurism.
